Fireworks and lakes

On Saturday July 21st, Anaïs and I were at Bourget du Lac. There was an event that people liking the Middle Age should appreciate: la Médiévales des Dames. This was to celebrate an historical event where ambassadors from the Milan's Duke went to this place to ask for a marriage with the daughter of Amédée VIII, Savoie's Duke. There were activities and reenactments. The day ended up with fireworks launched from the Bourget lake.

August 4th, we did it again, but this time at Annecy: we assisted to the Fête du Lac. Fireworks were together with music and laser lights. The show lasted around 45 minutes. There were more than 40 000 persons. I really enjoyed all these moments. To go back to Annemasse, we had to wait until 2:00 in the morning.

August 11th, the same kind of event happened at Geneva. This time, I was in Lyon...

When I will find my pictures, I will post them.

More pictures on Flickr (2)

I have added again pictures on my Flickr account. This time, I put pictures from the Grand Canyon and Las Vegas and I also uploaded with some from Lyon. I hope to get images from Paris soon.

As I have said in the earlier post, I tested the map feature. I find it well done but it takes time. Therefore, I suggest to localize pictures when you upload them on Flickr.

My first soccer game

Yesterday, I went to my first soccer game in a stadium. I have been invited by a friend from Renault Trucks to see a Champions League game: OL against Dynamo from Kiev. It was very cold in the Gerland stadium and I was upset not to have taken my gloves. From my side (Virage Sud), the atmosphere was not so exciting compared to Virage Nord. There were more than 40,000 spectators. Talking about game quality, I was deceived from Lyon's team even if they won this game.

New FONspot in Lyon

Almost two weeks ago, I have received my Fonera from FON. What is FON? Well, I think you can already go to this website to read about it.

FON_Renan What have I done with this Fonera? Well, it has became a Wifi hotspot. If you come along to Lyon to visit me, you will be able to reach it (its name is FON_RENAN). My neighbor noticed it right away because her computer suddenly connected to my Access Point. She ran to my door asking to me what had I done. I am sure my explanations were confusing. I promise I will write this article about it soon, but I am quite busy now.

FON is not an open system, but if you are already a Fonero, you can connect for free. Here is a link for a map of the FON hotspots.

I am now waiting for Neuf to complete its agreement so that I will have two hotspots: one in Lyon (Neuf) and the other one in Grenoble (Free + Fonera).

Do not hesitate to leave comments if you have some questions.

More pictures on Flickr

Last friday, I wanted to add more pictures on my Flickr account. I found out that I had reached a maximum level. Former pictures were not visible anymore for visitors. I choose to buy a Pro account to continue using Flickr adequately. I have just discovered as well that we can tag the pictures to a specific location on a map (where the photo was taken I guess). I will try out this feature later on.

I have added pictures of Perouges (near Lyon) and from the Yellowstone. As usual, from my Flickr page, you can use the appropriate tags to browse the pictures.

Connected through Optical Fiber

Today Free, a French operator announced that they will provide FTTH (Fiber To The Home) to Paris starting 2007. This service will be available for other cities later on. As Lyon is a major city, it will be probably connected soon.

What is this Fiber To The Home? This means that your home is connected by optical fiber to your operator. By doing this, you reach ultra high speed for Internet. Free announces 50 Mbs at 29,90 euros per month! Free is not the first operator providing FTTH in Paris, but it will be at this cheap price.

This high speed will bring the development of new services. In Lyon, I have 20 Mbs with Neuf and I already have Internet, TV, and VoIP phone. I think we will approache speeds available in Japan and in Korea! 50 Mbs are probably a start...
